Innovation and adoption in IT is moving at a very fast pace that it is sometimes difficult to imagine that the tool we are so accustomed of using everyday might be coming to an end of its life. Yes I am talking about Email, the tool on which we devote currently 50-70% of time we are awake. I hope this must have not come as a surprise to you. Whenever I have made this bold statement in front of others the immediate reaction is of denial and lot of reasons are given on why this is not possible. This denial phase is not going to change the destiny.
I simply ask one question to everyone I have mentioned. The question is: “ How many emails your kid send in a day?”
Every person took a pause, after a brief thought to the presented scenario responded with accepting the unbelievable. The gen Z do not use email as tool for communication they prefer social media platforms. A similar shift we saw in my one of the large organisation where Google+ was adopted. The Australian retail group with 200,000+ employees experienced a sudden growth of Google+ communities.
A similar shift we saw in my one of the large organisation where Google+ was adopted. The Australian retail group with 200,000+ employees experienced a sudden growth of Google+ com-munities. These online communities increased the collob-oration and flow of fast information exchange between teams and external partners. The social media enabled first time CEO to send a message which instantly reached to all 200,000+ em-ployees. The G+ communities were created for everything, project teams shared all the details reports etc. The other benefit was global expo-sure and knowledge.
We all have used forums in our internet life either to get a review on a product or service, looking for issue resolution or just sharing the similar interest and ideas. In our busy life we already struggle for work life balance, the opportunity to pursue other interests goes to the bottom of our list. Since I am on Google+ I have joined commu-nities of my interest and I get notifications on any new development or news. Its not commercially run process hence you know that information will not be biased. Our end users in Enterprises have been suffering from obselete technolgies from a decade now. The efficiencies within organisations have been ignored. The changing landscape of IT has now opened gates for any business size to adopt latest technology without worrying the impact on the wallet.
